I need "MS Windows NT 4.0 integrated shell". How do I check if I have this?

inTuator component checker (Help / Component Checker) will show you the current components installed on your PC.  If your shell32.dll is at a lower level than 4.72.3110.6 you may encounter problems. In an NT 4.0 environment, this dll is only updated when the Windows Desktop Update is installed; the Windows Desktop Update is an integrated part of Windows 98, Windows 98 Second Edition, Windows Millennium Edition (Me), Windows 2000 and Windows XP.

Microsoft introduced this feature in IE 4.01 as an install option, for subsequent IE releases the Windows Desktop Update is not installed. The bad news is that Microsoft has not made it easy to install the Windows Desktop Update for NT users - see the Microsoft Knowledge Base articles Q165695  and Q254919 . Bottom line is that they want people to go to Windows 2000/XP; alternatives are to both de-install IE 6 (see Q293907) and then start from IE4.01 with the Windows Desktop Update selected (and then upgrade back to IE 6) or to build custom installs of either IE or Office.

The Q165695 article goes through how you can get it for NT4.0.
